What will the course be like?
Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands. Located 97km from the African coastline, it is an arid desert island and very windy: the perfect location for experiencing a great adventure far from everything. In terms of landscape, it is very similar to the zone in which MARATHON DES SABLES takes place, with stretches of sand, dunes, rocky hills, desert areas and even some cones, vestiges of the island’s volcanic origins. Temperatures in September are similar to the Sahara in April, at around 25°C in the day and 15°C at night.
The route of the HALF MARATHON DES SABLES FUERTEVENTURA, comprising 120 km in three stages, was prepared in coordination with the local authorities and environmental experts. It will be a balanced mix of sand, stones, tracks, climbs and descents – but most of all it will be stunningly beautiful, with the ocean as a backdrop.
