Fred LAMOUREUX (FRA)

"I am the lover of the desert"

At 46, Fred LAMOUREUX (FRA) will participate for the fifth time in MARATHON DES SABLES in April 2020. If he comes back again, it is because he lives a particularly strong relationship with the desert and the iconic pedestrian race : "The MDS and I have a special relationship. The desert is my lover, or I am the lover of the desert, and the MDS is the symbol of this union. "

Indeed, at each of his participations, Fred felt put in his place by the desert: "we relativize many things of our daily life". Acting as a real reset, the MARATHON DES SABLES allows him to appreciate his true value his "normal" life in France. His family understands this need: "My family supports me thoroughly with each participation, even if some people think I am crazy. But the important thing is to know where we are going and why we are doing it. "

Fred LAMOUREUX et Bernard GAUDIN

Fred participated for the first time in MDS in 2006, supported by Bernard GAUDIN, his "sports dad". "He taught me a lot, and I'm sure from up there he guides me on every step. " Bernard GAUDIN (FRA), who won the MDS in 1987 and 1988 (2nd and 3rd editions), died suddenly in 2010 at the age of 61. Among other things, he won the Millau 100km, realized marathon (2h27), semi (1h09) and 24 hours (an enormous 274km) marks, and devoted himself to the 24 hours by coaching the team of France and many athletes.

Fred LAMOUREUX

So of course, it's a bit for Bernard that Fred will start the 35th MARATHON DES SABLES, and once again he will put all the chances on his side. Sports coach, his approach to competition is rigorous: "I want to be as close as possible to perfection in terms of sports preparation, but also on other aspects of the race. "Besides, Fred coaches a dozen people who will also be present on the MDS, always with the same approach, probably inherited part of Bernard:" when we go in the desert, we must remain humble. We must not try to tame the desert, we must adopt it. The slightest mistake can be irremediable for the rest of the race. "
