Manuel AMAT (FRA)

“This time he will be one of the runners”

At 57, Manuel AMAT (FRA) will take part in the MARATHON DES SABLES for the first time, a race he is looking forward to. This electrician from Fos-sur-Mer has always been a runner, but needed help to take the plunge and register for his first marathon, as his daughter Séverine tells us: "A runner since always, he talked a lot about marathon but never dared to take the step of registering until I registered him for his very first marathon in 2018, the Paris Marathon. »

These first 42.195 km in competition are a revelation for Manuel, even if he had to go for this first Finisher title with guts: "He ran it, without knowing it, with a cracked rib following a fall two weeks earlier. But he refused to cancel, going so far as to see a magnetist to relieve him! Since that first finish line, he has not stopped, setting himself the goal of completing the World Marathon Majors – Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York.

He will complete the New York Marathon in 2019, and Berlin in 2021, with a Covid break in the meantime. Manuel is planning the London Marathon in 2022, but an error from his travel agency forces him to cancel. And finally, he will try another marathon in 2023, but of a different kind: the MARATHON DES SABLES! A first ultra-marathon experience for Manuel, whom he knows in advance to be strong in sport and human terms: "He has been watching MDS images for several years, and this time he will be one of the runners to cross the start line and arrival. »

Thanks to Séverine, his daughter, for painting Manuel's portrait for us, and see you in four months in the southern Moroccan Sahara, with the support of his family and especially his biggest fans: his grandchildren Paolina, Rosalina and Marius!
