EVEN MORE DIFFICULT AND EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL

The start of the second stage of the 38th MARATHON DES SABLES LEGENDARY was given at 7 a.m. for 40.8 km more sandy and hilly than yesterday. The temperature rose sharply throughout the day. And yet, out of 840 starters, we only regret about ten dropouts.

The 38th MARATHON DES SABLES LEGENDARY continues to ramp up, with a second stage that is longer (40.8 km), sandier, particularly in its first part, and hillier than yesterday. And obviously even more beautiful!

A JOURNEY OF COMPLETE BEAUTY

The participants were unanimous after reaching the finish: the last straight line of 7 km after CP3 was really difficult to manage and the first half of the course was magnificent. Catherine QUENET (D757-FRA) loved it: “The start was magnificent, I love the dunes to cross like little passes. Walking in a wadi, I had never done that in my life. I'm really happy to be here, I just want to go to the end. Tomorrow will be decisive. If I succeed tomorrow, I think I can finish.“

THE HUMAN ADVENTURE

Beyond the wadis, jebels, salt lakes, rocky passes, stony plains offering a diversity of incredible landscapes, the human adventure often comes up in the comments. Laurent CROQUEVIELLE (D26-FRA) is particularly touched by this sense of collectiveness: “What I appreciated the most was the human adventure with my team. There are four of us, and the goal is to do the whole adventure as a foursome. At the last CP, I wasn't doing very well, the medical team took care of me, and my friends stayed there for an hour while I recovered, without them knowing if I would be able to leave. I really wanted to thank the Doc and his entire team who re-energized me and allowed me to do the last seven kilometers.“

TOMORROW: THE LONG STAGE

With only 11 dropouts on the first two stages, this 38th edition of the MDS LEGENDARY remains extraordinary. Tomorrow, time for the MDS Long Stage: 85.3 km to be covered in less than 35 hours. Warning: temperatures are expected to rise further.
